Today we’ll be discussing the types of senior care options including assisted living, memory care, boarding care, nursing home, independent living and continuing care retirement communities and also in home care givers and what are they, the costs and way to pay for them. That’s get us started.
First loss. Talk about residential care facilities. Where are they? They are assisted living community also are called personal care home, elderly facilities, boarding care, RCFE adult live in facilities or group home and they are usually a facilities. They typically room six to up to hundreds of people, depends on the size of the communities. Sometimes they are home light environment. They look like just a typical residential homes from the outside. And typically they are run by um, in the visual versus to a huge community. You can sometimes you drive by on the street, you can see if an outside, they look like a big hotel. And usually that kind of community they can room up to a couple hundred people in one Assisted Living San Leandro community. Typically the provide 24 hours assistance and ranging, you know, doing laundry, providing meal transportation, social activities, bathing, dressing, toileting, housekeeping, medication management, and also taking residents who doctor’s appointment.
Um, and their stay regulated. In California, especially in the bay area, they are regulated by the Department of Social Services. There are a couple awesome communities in the bay area. For example, in Oakland, they are the point of Rockridge, um, each song or Pacifica Jnc. They’re really awesome communities and they’re, they’re highly rated by many of our clients and they had ranged between 2,500 to 6,000 a month. Depends on the care level. If course, if we need more assistance that will be a little bit more expensive. Um, they usually charge either flat rate, usually the homelike environment, they charge them more like a flat rate basis. Um, they just give you a rave, maybe a 3,500. I includes everything. So basically a senior just movie and usually they have to be 60 or older to be able to come into a community like this, um, and the payer flat rate and to be taken care of versus to some a sister living there point base.
So you have to pay a community fee, basically help you register, check in to the community assisted living. Um, and then on top of that you pay a room rate, sometimes 2000 per room with bathroom and then depends on your knee. Maybe medication management is another additional 500 or if you need help going to the bathroom. So basically there’s different ways to pay for your assisted living. Of course there are designated places like a memory care facilities that help people with Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s disease. Um, they usually is kind of like a more secure world complex. So people don’t, they can’t just walk out the door because sometimes people with Alzheimer’s or dementia, they tend to wonder if they’re physically healthy. You just have Alzheimer’s. I can easily leave the house and get lost, get heard. So usually a memory care facility is more secure. However, memory care facility is a little bit more expensive because uh, those residents sometimes require more care.
Um, but they do have a lot of engaging activities to help the resident cope with their illness. Um, it can range between 3000 to 10,000. Depends on the area. Of course, places in San Francisco would be a little bit more expensive and East Bay area like San Leandro, Oakland, Hayward, Castro valley, that areas is slightly cheaper. And that’s assisted living memory care facility. Another type of senior living is independent living facilities. They also called retirement communities, retirement homes, senior apartments, senior housing. And this ds type of facility tend to be, um, they are not as hands on as assisted living communities. They usually let seniors have more freedom and they don’t provide, um, assisted, um, support such as bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting knee. But they do provide meals. Transportation is social activities. They’re usually for some seniors still are very active and very, you know, still handling most of their own finances, resources and appointment doctor’s appointments.
Um, they usually depends on the area. In the bay area they tend to start about 2000 plus and some of them’s are regulated by the state. Um, if they are in one of the assisted living or the larger community, they tend to be regulated. Um, also sometimes they’re stand alone. They are just a senior apartments. Um, basically people can come and go as they wished. Usually we’ll have a security guards. The first floor, um, they cost from 500 to 2000 stay wide. But of course in California has a lot of them are more expensive. The third type of residential care senior care communities is nursing home. Nursing home is also known as skilled nursing facilities, sniff, nursing, home care and rehabilitation centers, convalescent hospital in some area also called rest home. These type of communities typically provide 24 hour assistance with skilled nurse skill staff, meaning skilled nurses, registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, social workers.
And also MD, uh, these type of community is that can provide a highest level care that there is. Um, it’s Kinda like stepped down from hospital and subacute. Um, they can provide insulin injection, check your blood sugar, blood pressure, um, ivy in effusion, Jeetu and also, um, different, kind of like a procedure, wound change, dressing change. Um, of course they provide the basic stuff such as laundry, Len and servers, meals, transportation, social activity, bathing, dressing, toileting, housekeeping in medication management. Um, they also provide hospice and end of life service. Usually when they are done at a nursing home setting as call, um, comfort care and they have doctors on call. So if any Assisted Living San Leandro residents in need of, um, mds to see them or to properly treat them, usually doctors are assessable most of times. Um, these type of facilities are regulated by the state and federal government. Um, it’s, it can be paid by Medicare. The first 20 days. Typically it will be paid 100% by Medicare and the rest 80 days, um, will be paid like about 80% by Medicare. But it is not a facility that you can just go in whenever you wish. You usually need to have a qualifying diagnosis or condition to check in.
Another type of community is called continuing care retirement communities, the stoners, CCRC, continuing care retirement facilities, life care facilities or life care communities. These type of facility is kind of like a campus like that provides a continuum of care from private residents like independent living to assisted livings, assisted living care, assisted living facility and skilled nursing care is designed for individual that is 60 or over with declining conditions and hook the dose. Doesn’t want to leave for a maintain stay in a single location. So basically from independent living to nursing care, of course they provide a basic service such as laundry learning me or transportation, bathing, dressing like would discuss. And also they have nursing staff on site, physical therapist, people can do rehab and they can also been seen by a doctor. Um, and also hospice service. Uh, these type of facilities are typically regulated by the states and also by the Department of Social Service. Um, this could be a choice for someone who just want to move once and doesn’t want her to move again. And usually this type of facilities required an off from movie in deposit from 20,000 to 500,000 and some monthly payment between 500 to 4,000 a month plus maybe an additional fee depends on the care need.
Lastly, I would like to talk about home care and home health care. Sometimes people think they’re the same, but actually it is an important distinction. While bowls are care of provided by individuals at home, while the client or the patient can stay at home, um, to receive care home health care, usually we refer a higher level of care. That usually requires medical training such as nurse, physical therapist, occupational therapist or speech therapist. Um, usually this type of providers, they provide procedures such as checking individuals, vitals, maybe perform wound dressing, change or assist with braces and using medical devices or check blood sugars. This type of a service usually are provided by home health care. Um, I can give you an example. Uh, Mr. Smith just discharged from Eden Hospital in San Leandro. Now he’s back to his house in San Leandro. Um, the hospital call home health nurse to check on Mr. Smith.
The nurse came to Mr. Smith House in San Leandro. While Mr. Smith can comfortably stay at home without going anywhere, the nurse will perform, um, check vital signs and if Mr. Smith needs to have his wound dressing change and he or she will do that. Um, versus a home care private also is called private duty care. Private duty cares usually are performed by individuals that received some training such as unskilled trainee searches, um, brazing, dressing, dressing change to help individuals who cooking, cleaning and accompany the clients or patients who could doctor’s appointment. So these type of care is more personal care is more like a home come home care. Private duty care. Um, the same example for Mr. Smith in San Leandro. Um, the private duty care can come in to help him take him to doctor’s appointment or a clean his house. Maybe he’s not as mobile. And the private duty care provider can come in to take him to the bathroom to help him take showers, dressing, uh, you know, changing, putting on clothes and making sure the food is ready and he’s eating properly.
So, um, this is more like a private duty care. Now let’s talk about how much they cost. Um, let’s start with a sister living. Assisted living in the bay area in general starts about 3,500. Um, in certain areas such as Oakland, San Leandro and Hayward can be a little bit cheaper. Um, they start about 2,500. That’s the lowest I have heard of. Um, and you can go all the way to 10,000. A facilities like memory care can cost a little bit higher. Usually you can expect to pay anywhere from 4,000 to 10,000. Um, in the bay area, um, did lowest we have in Castro valley send the enjoy area usually starts about 4,500. Assisted Living San Leandro Independent living on the other hand usually starts about a thousand and go all the way up to 4,500. Usually you have a two bedroom apartment, um, that the facility will provide three meals and also activities, um, you know, outings and all kinds of fun stuff.
For continued care. Retirement communities, they usually eat, there’s an upfront movie and deposit range between 20,000 to 500,000 and a monthly costs that range varies, depends on your care. Need a nursing home usually charge on the daily basis. In the bay area we were talking about Oakland, San Leandro, Castro valley or San Francisco area usually start about 300 to 500 a day. Um, usually is paid by the insurance like Medicare for the first 100 days, um, after that will be self paid and for caregivers. Um, home health caregiver provider, home health care provider will be pay usually by Medicare and caregivers are usually in the bay area. We’re talking about the same area. Oakland, San Leandro, Castro valley, San Francisco, I said East Bay area usually stars about 16 all the way to $35 an hour. And usually if you want someone to live in with you such as, um, it’s, it was start about five to 700 a day for home health care, on the other hand, will be pay usually by the insurance.
